Painted on location during an evening of plein air painting, Chasing the Evening Light captures the fleeting desert light as it settled across the cliffs and water.

Plein air painting is about responding to the moment. The light changes quickly, colors shift by the minute, and the landscape transforms right before your eyes. This piece was created in that narrow window just before sunset, when the sky softens and the desert begins to glow.

This painting is especially meaningful to me because I spent the evening painting alongside my dad — sharing our love of art while watching the beauty of creation unfold around us.

Because plein air paintings are completed outdoors in real time, they often carry an energy and immediacy that studio paintings cannot replicate. Each brushstroke reflects the experience of being present in the landscape.
