Firelight Fields

11 x 14 Oil on Linen Board

There are some summer evenings that stay with you forever.

The sun has slipped below the horizon, the air has finally cooled, and suddenly the meadow begins to sparkle. Tiny lights drift through the tall grasses, turning an ordinary landscape into something that feels almost magical. It’s the kind of moment that makes you stop, breathe deeply, and simply watch.

Firelight Fields is a celebration of those quiet evenings that remind us to slow down and notice the beauty God has placed all around us. The movement of the grasses, the rich evening sky, and the gentle glow of the fireflies invite you back to childhood—to nights spent chasing light, laughing with family, and staying outside just a little longer.

This painting was created from an original photograph by photographer Al Sundt and is painted with his gracious permission. I am deeply grateful for his generosity in allowing me to interpret his beautiful image in oil.

Reflection

Some of life’s sweetest memories aren’t the loud ones. They’re the evenings that ask nothing of us except to be present.

The fireflies don’t last long. Neither do our children stay little, our summers remain endless, or the moments we treasure wait forever. Perhaps that’s why they’re so precious. They remind us to pause, to be grateful, and to see God’s fingerprints in the ordinary.

Scripture
