The Quiet Watcher

Story

Some evenings don't ask for our attention-they simply invite us to slow down. 

Last summer, a great blue heron became a familiar visitor along our shoreline.  Sometimes it stood quietly near the beach.  Other days it would perch on the fishing dock, carefully preening its feathers before lifting off across the lake.

There was something incredibly peaceful about watching it.  It never seemed hurried. It simply belonged to the rhythm of the water.

This painting captures that same quiet feeling.  The golden sunset reflects across the pond while the heron stands motionless, reminding us that beauty often reveals itself when we're willing to be still long enough to notice.

Reflection

Life constantly urges us toward the next task, the next destination, the next distraction.

But creation reminds us that there is another way.

Sometimes the greatest gift isn't accomplishing more-it's simply standing still long enough to notice the light reflecting around us.

Perhaps that's where peace has been waiting all along.
