Afternoon Ride
$500.00
Once again, I got to share my love of painting with my father. While in Missouri, we headed out to our favorite, Creve Couer Park to find the perfect spot to paint. Unfortunately, while we were driving there, it began to rain. But as we continued to find just the right spot, it finally stopped. While dad was enamored by a field, I took delight in this lovely little bike trail and bridge.
I really liked the overcast hues and capturing the post storm clouds in the sky. Although the sun did finally makes itself known, I chose to keep the painting as it began. I had a really hard time getting the perspective of the painting, and while I was packing up my gear a bicyclist rode through the path. It was exactly what I needed to add to the painting.
So, when I got home I went to work fixing the plein air. Since I spent more than 15% of my time in studio on this one, it's no longer considered plein air. But that's ok. I am loving the final outcome, thanks to a lot of coaching from my dad on horizon lines and values! I really feel like it shows the feeling of getting out on an afternoon ride!
This painting is oils on a 16x20 linen canvas
